North Queensland Recycling Agents supports any program that helps promote effective recycling practices and reduces landfill waste.
Launched in November 2018, Queensland’s Containers for Change Scheme brings our state in line with many other Australia states by providing a 10 cent refund for eligible containers.

Containers For Change Cairns
NQRA is located at 152 Newell Street in Bungalow, open 7 days a week offering a convenient covered drive through with efficient staff to process your items. Our refund point is easily accessible and open 7 days a week.
Our team collects all the containers regularly and transports them for processing and reusing by beverage manufacturers.

How Does Cash For Cans / Containers For Change Work?
The Containers for Change program can be broken down into 4 simple steps:
Collect Eligible Containers For Cash For Cans
In an effort to reduce the amount of litter in our environment, the program focuses on drink containers between 150ml and 3 litres. Most aluminium, glass, plastic, steel and liquid paperboard containers are accepted. However, each container must:- Display the refund mark
- Must be empty and have the lid removed
- Be an approved material
Containers that are excluded from the scheme include:
- Any plain milk bottle or carton
- Any glass containers which had wine or pure spirits
- 1 litres or larger containers which had flavoured milk, pure fruit or vegetable juice, cask wine or cask water
- Concentrated/undiluted cordial or syrup bottles
- Condiment bottles
- Wine sachets above 250ml
- Registered health tonics
Create Cash for Cans Scheme Account
If you wish to receive your refund via electronic funds transfer (EFT) direct to your bank account, you will need to create an account on the Containers for Change website. If you prefer, our refund point does offer cash refunds which do not require an account.Visit A Cash For Cans Collection Point
At NQRA, we operate an over-the-counter style refund point. This is a manned depot where our friendly staff can assess the eligibility of all containers handed in and provide the refund.
This can be in cash or added to your bank account through your scheme account ID.
Collect Or Donate Your Cash For Cans Refund
All you need to do now is collect your refund for helping clean up our environment. Our staff provide cash on the spot if you wish. Alternatively, you can provide us your unique scheme ID and have your refund transferred to your bank account or instead nominate a local community group or charity for the refund to go to.
All you need is the group’s scheme ID.
